Free Brood Stock Salmon Fly-fishing Expo Offered

CONCORD, N.H. -- Fly-fishing anglers who want to improve their skills at catching the "King of Fish" can come to a free Brood Stock Salmon Fishing Expo on Saturday, May 7, 2005, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Fish and Game Headquarters on Hazen Drive in Concord. The workshop is sponsored jointly by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, Trout Unlimited and Hunters Angling Supply. No pre-registration is necessary, however, a 2005 New Hampshire fishing license and Atlantic salmon permit are required. Click here to purchase fishing licenses and permits online.

The salmon fishing expo is designed for intermediate anglers who already have some fly-fishing experience; it is not for beginners. The morning session features concurrent workshops on basic equipment and needs, fly-tying patterns for Atlantic salmon, casting instruction and special programs. The afternoon session includes concurrent sessions including on-the-water fly-fishing, reading the water, introduction to rotational fishery, casting demonstrations and tactics for success. Watch brood stock salmon being released. Participants may take part in the morning sessions, the afternoon sessions, or both.

Participants should plan to bring their own fishing rods, waders and rain gear. The event takes place rain or shine. A limited number of rods and reels will be available. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch.

The Brood Stock Expo is coordinated by the N.H. Fish and Game Department's Let's Go Fishing program, which introduces thousands of people each year to an outdoor activity that fosters good stewardship of New Hampshire's aquatic resources. Let's Go Fishing classes are made possible by the Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Program.
