Legislation of Interest

This page includes brief summaries of selected legislation of interest to the N.H. Fish and Game Department.

SB 132 -- Following amendment and passage in the N.H. Senate, a House hearing was held on April 23, 2009, before the Executive Departments and Administration (ED&A) Committee regarding Senate Bill 132, relative to establishing a commission to draft implementation plans for merging state agencies to "enhance efficiency and lower costs." The bill called for the merger of the N.H. departments of Fish and Game, Cultural Resources, and Agriculture, along with the divisions of Parks and Recreation, and Forests and Lands into a newly established Department of Natural and Cultural Resources; AND merging all law enforcement functions, including Fish and Game Conservation Officers, under the Department of Safety. A House ED&A subcommittee met on April 29, 2009, and recommended the bill as Inexpendient to Legislate (ITL) to the full committee, which met on May 5, 2009, resulting in a unanimous vote of Inexpedient to Legislate. On May 20, 2009, the full House voted against the bill, defeating it. Click here to read the complete bill language.
