The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department has an immediate opening for a full-time Biologist II (Research Coordinator) located at our Region 3 Office in Durham, New Hampshire. The individual will be responsible to perform field surveys, collect data, analyze and interpret data for various marine state and federal fisheries management and monitoring programs. Initiate, oversee and coordinate research efforts associated with the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in accordance with federal guidelines established by National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. (NOAA)

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Coordinate research efforts related to the Reserve and convene the Great Bay Research Coordinator Advisory Committee.
  • Oversee the Research Reserve’s System-Wide Monitoring Program (SWMP), including water quality and biological monitoring.
  • Identify research and data synthesis needs for Research Reserve.
  • Facilitate and participate in collaborative research projects throughout the Great Bay Watershed addressing Fish and Game needs and other identified issues and priorities.
  • Assist with the development of projects through the National Estuarine Research Reserve Science Collaborative as these relate to the Great Bay.
  • Oversee the NOAA fellowship program and other student interns conducting research in the Great Bay Estuary.
  • Prepare reports, including data compilation and analyses, and write up of results.
  • Serve on advisory boards as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Master’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in biology, wildlife, or fisheries management, or a related biological science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience. 

Experience:  Two years of experience in aquatic fisheries or wildlife biology.  Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education at the graduate level only.

License/Certification:  Applicants for positions requiring fieldwork must have or be able to obtain a New Hampshire driver’s license within probationary period.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  For consideration, applicants must participate in a structured interview measuring possession of knowledge, skills and abilities.  Applicants’ responses to questions asked in the structured interview will be numerically rated.
